Bug Vs. The Evil Dead

My parents were divorced when I was young, and at the age of 12 - 4 years after they split up - my mom brought home a man for me and my siblings to meet.  He was a truck mechanic for Ryder.  However he had a friend that could get VHS tapes on movies that were still in theaters. The first one he brought to our house was Evil Dead 2.  While my brothers and sister were not allowed to watch it (due to the movie being rated R), I was.  Already being a horror movie lover, I fell in love with this movie.  I even played hooky from school the following day and watched it again.

A side note: The following week, Cliff brought over Dirty Dancing, which is rated PG-13. Yet I was not allowed to watch that for some reason.

Years later, when I was living with a couple of friends, I saw a preview for a movie called Army of Darkness.  I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.  Was this Evil Dead 3? Once I saw the commercial again, I knew it was.  At the time, money was tight. I did not own a car. I walked or caught rides everywhere I went, but I was determined to see this opening day.  A group of my friends decided to go on opening day. My friend Shane and I found a ride to the mall theater on opening day.

Shane and I

The catch was, we were all going to see the 6 o’clock showing, and we could only find a ride at 9 in the morning.  Keep in mind, this was in the days before the internet, and there was no option to to buy early tickets.  If we had waited until 6, they might have been sold out, and we may not have been able to see the movie together. Shane and I got to the theater when they opened to buy everyone’s tickets for the 6 o’clock showing. Then Shane and I looked at each other. We both had the same idea. This was Evil Dead 3, a series we loved.  We walked up the counter. And got the 7 tickets for the 6 o’clock showing, and 2 tickets for the 10:30 showing.

That is how I saw Army of Darkness twice on opening day. It was so worth it.  Since then, we have had video games, comics, a remake and even a musical based on the series.  So when Starz recently announced a TV show based around the series, I was super excited and nervous.  Well this week, the released a trailer, and I happy to report, it looks awesome! Check out the trailer below.
