Sugar - A good idea

Today's Song of the day is Sugar - A good idea.

Sugar was form by former Husker Du singer/guitarist Bob Mould.  I don't really have any interesting facts about the song other than I love it.

It comes from the Copper Blue album.

I woke up this morning with it stuck in my head so I hope it get's stuck in yours now too.

Personal memory :

I will always love Sugar because it has memorable place as part of one of my top 10 favorite days in my life.

On a hot summer night in the early 90's in Chicago my girlfriend (who I later married) and some friends saw Sugar at the Aragon Ballroom.  Needless to say it was a great show.  It also started early enough so that it ended around 11:00 pm.  Leaving us enough time to walk down the street to the Riviera Theater to catch the Goo Goo Dolls before they started doing power ballads and sucking.  Great Night!

Spirit - Taurus (song of the day)

I am sure you have heard the news that broke last night, that after more then 41 years, the band Led Zeppelin is being sued for plagiarism. The band Spirit has claimed that the opening to Stairway to Heaven is written by deceased guitarist Randy California. The band did not have the money to pay for lawyers, which is why the band waited so long to sue.

I had never heard of the band Spirit until today.  After listening to the song Taurus, which was released 3 years before Stairway, I can say without a doubt that Led Zeppelin ripped them off.

I am sure this will be settled out of court, but we will have to wait an see.

And that is why Taurus by Spirit is todays song of the day!

Clueless Gamer: Big Screen Edition

Conan O’Brien is here with another clueless gamer.  This time he went big, by using one of the biggest screens in the world, to play Madden, Flower, NFS, and Street Fighter II.  The video shows they are using a PS4, but Street Fighter II is not on the PS4.  I wonder if this means it is coming over.

Ramones - Needles and Pins

What happens when you mix Sonny Bono and the Ramones? I will tell you what happens, you get the song of the day, The Ramones version of Needles and Pins. Needles and Pens was written back in 1963 by Sonny Bono and Jack Nitzsche. It was first recorded in the same year by Jackie DeShannon, but only made it to #83 on the charts.

A year later, the The Searchers released the song, and it made it to #3 in the Billboard charts. This song has been covered by many artist

Cher

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with Stevie Nicks

Willie DeVille

Gary Lewis & the Playboys

Smokie

The Turtles

Ultima Thule

And was finally perfected by the Ramones. Which is why it is our song of the day.

MC 900 Ft. Jesus - The City Sleeps

Todays song of the day is The City Sleeps by MC 900 Ft. Jesus. I picked this song for a couple of reasons. It is a great song, and the lyrics paint a story.  The story of a pyromaniac that sets fires while the city sleeps. And lastly, I picked the this song because U2 picked this song.  The opening of this song, was sampled by U2 and used on the album Zooropa. The question is, do you know which song?

SOAKED IN BLEACH: A Bad Idea

It seems like we have been on a Nirvana kick lately.  Yesterday, in what may have been in bad taste,  a trailer for the movie Soaked in Bleach was released. The movie is a documentary, but with actors?? So I would not call it a documentary, but a fakeumentary.  I, like many others, do believe that Courtney Love had something to do with Kurt Cobain's death, but from watching the preview, it seems that whoever produced this is going to blow things out of proportion, to make Courtney Love look as guilty as possible.

Not only are they doing this to make more money, but they are going to make all the people who believe that Courtney Love was responsible look even crazier.

Judge for yourself, and let us know what you think.
